Architectural Designer

Job Description

Reporting to the Architectural Design Manager, incumbent acts as an Architectural Designer assisting Architects, Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Interior Designer assigned to new construction, renovations, modifications, and repairs of facilities that are under the management of Housing & Hospitality Services (H&HS). Duties include preliminary project design, preparation of construction documents, project management, construction management support, and acting as a liaison between H&HS Departments and other University Departments.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited professional program in Architectural Design, Environmental Design, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required

Minimum of two years of professional experience in design and building industry in private practice, corporate and /or institutional settings, preferably with universities, colleges, or school systems.
Required

Knowledge of construction management industry standards and practices, safety standards, and codes to construct facilities and manage projects.
Preferred

Experience in project planning and management, involving critical path
analysis and scheduling.
Preferred

Skill in working independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated success in working in collaborative style, in following through with tasks with minimal
supervision, and in promoting a high degree of professionalism in meeting assigned responsibilities.
Required

Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact professionally, effectively, and tactfully with University personnel at various levels and with public in all matters pertaining to assigned projects.
Required

Skill in using AutoCad, Revit, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, sketchup, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Project Scheduling.
Required

Skill in preparation and interpretation of construction documents including but not limited to bidding requirements, general conditions, agreements, technical specifications and architectural drawings.
Required

Working knowledge of University forms, policies, procedures and ability to
process forms required to accomplish various transactions.
Preferred

Ability to prepare and present effective graphic and oral presentations and to
assist groups in determining specific opinions, solutions, etc.
Required

Skill in preparing effective graphic presentations such as, colored 2-D drawings, 3-D renderings, physical models, and finish material boards.
Required

Ability to take independent action, demonstrate initiative, dependability, good
judgment and solve problems.
Required

Skill in organizing and monitoring work to ensure completion in a timely
manner when there are interruptions, changing priorities, changes in workload, and competing requirements to meet deadlines.
Required

Knowledge of USGBC’s LEED Rating Systems.
Required

Skill in using Primavera construction management software.
Preferred

Ability to stand, climb, stoop, push, pull, and crouch for an extended period of time and to lift items weighing up to 35 pounds as required when reviewing
project assignments.
Required

Must possess a valid California Drivers license.
Preferred
