Assistant Director, Housing Operations
Job Description
The Assistant Director of Housing Operations, who reports to the Senior Director of Housing Operations and Safety, will have overall management responsibility for administering the aspects of multiple residential complexes and the associated auxiliary buildings that are open 24 hours/day 365 days/year, which operate on an annual budget of up to 28 million dollars with up to 120 FTE. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling the day to day activities of the residential complexes within their area of responsibility encompassing up to 9.5 million SF of residential rooms, apartments & meeting space, housing 21,000 students, faculty & student families. These responsibilities include management of the Housing Operation Managers and Asst. Managers and indirect supervision of the Principal Custodial Supervisor, Custodial Staff, and Front Office resident service teams, to ensure UCLA Housing meets and exceeds the expectations of our resident populations. Prioritization and coordination with Maintenance on long-term and short-term project activities; with the approval of the Senior Director of Housing Operations and Safety, help with prioritizing with capital improvement projects in their area. The Assistant Director of Housing Operations helps to oversee the development and monitors various management control systems for key financial and service indicators including performance measures and benchmarking for “best in kind” comparisons and the development of appropriate rate structures for the academic and conference room rates. Provides necessary analysis and recommendations of Operations for long term planning decisions for UCLA Housing and Hospitality. Creates, updates and monitors a rolling 5-year strategic plan for the Housing Operation and successfully oversees the completion of the annual strategic initiatives and goals. The Assistant Director of Housing Operations meets on a regular basis with representatives from the campus community, such as Campus Human Resources, Facilities Management, Student Affairs, University Extension, Purchasing, Transportation and Parking Services, UCLA Police, the Fire Marshall, Student with Disabilities, ADA Compliance, and Real Estate Acquisitions. In addition, meets on a regular basis with the student government representatives as well as collective bargaining organization representatives from AFSCME and Cue. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Housing Operations assists the Senior Director in the development of policy as it relates to Housing Operations strategic objectives.
