Job Description
The Communications and Public Relations Representative develops and writes copy for wide array of marketing, communications, promotional, and
informational materials for the departments within UCLA Housing &
Hospitality Services. These departments include Housing Administration,
the Luskin Conference Center, UCLA Conferences & Catering, the UCLA
Lake Arrowhead Conference Center & Bruin Woods Family Resort,
Housing & Dining Services, HR & Payroll, and Training & Development.
Responsibilities involve writing new copy and editing existing
copy for both digital and printed formats; including press releases, articles, speeches, presentations, web content, organization-wide emails, display advertisements, email blasts, video scripts, proposals, flyers, social media, content, strategic plans, reports, and other materials as needed. The incumbent will act as the departmental “reporter,” meeting with various team members to create content and copy for a variety of programs, including the H&HS Spotlight Program, Administration’s News and Views Newsletter, and departmental newsletters. The role will oversee departmental communications, including participating in the Communications Committee meetings and formulating talking points for Managers and Supervisors to push out information to line staff, crafting speeches for various events, public relations opportunities, and vetting communications with the AVC and appropriate stakeholders. .The Senior Works with all members of the marketing and creative team on various projects and is expected to have excellent communication skills to collaborate with clients and colleagues to develop concepts, campaigns, and strategies to produce the best desired outcomes for a wide range of targeted audiences. The incumbent for this position must have demonstrated ability to write for multiple formats achieving the appropriate messaging, ensuring that the tone is on point for segment audiences and that brand continuity is maintained based on brand guidelines for both UCLA and Housing & Hospitality Services. Must be highly productive and able to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects simultaneously in a very busy, deadline-driven environment, with the ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
The target salary for this position is between the posted minimum and $6,250 monthly.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or related field OR minimum
of four years equivalent relevant professional experience and education.
Required
Experience planning and implementing communications plans and strategies through all media channels including social media.

Experience in responding to public inquiries and drafting press releases.
Required
Advanced skill in speech writing and preparing high level presentations.
Required
Skill in proofreading and editing for content, logical organization, accuracy, style, flow, and tone of informational materials.
Required
Demonstrated experience in written communications that express complex or technical content in understandable terms.
Required
Superior writing and editing skills to develop content for a variety of
marketing and communications pieces, in diverse tones and styles, for
diverse audiences.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and coordinate
production of work, meeting deadlines and project expectations.
Required
Excellent verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with
colleagues and clients and to lead and/or participate in brainstorming and
planning sessions.

Ability to adhere to and maintain UCLA and H&HS brand standards across all
formats and platforms of communications. Will serve as subject matter
expert to ensure adherence to established guidelines, professional standards,
and established protocols.

Minimum of five years of professional writing and editing experience.

Ability to develop formats and organize copy to present ideas and details in a
user-friendly, structurally and logically consistent, grammatically correct
manner.

Specific ability to create taglines and write advertising copy, adhering to
brand guidelines across various platforms with the understanding of
appropriate variations for distinct audiences; write branded editorial content.
