Job Description
HOUSING SAFETY PROGRAM – ACCESS CONTROL OPERATIONS – WHO WE ARE
Access Control Operations mainly operates from 9pm to 5am, and consists of Housing Safety Ambassadors (HSAs) assigned to be Access Control Monitors who ensure that persons entering the residence halls during the evening are here for valid reasons. Additionally, they monitor lobby and entrance activity for unusual disturbances, assist in responding to emergencies as needed, and ensure that all access control hardware (doors/alarms) are working correctly. Staff should be comfortable working with the public, be effective communicators and mediators, possess a high level of integrity, maintain calm under pressure, and be able to work late at night.
HOUSING SAFETY PROGRAM – EXTERIOR CONTROL OPERATIONS (ECO) – WHO WE ARE
Exterior Control Operations mainly operates from 4pm to 9pm to patrol UCLA’s residential areas, both on the residential hill and university apartments. HSAs who are assigned to be Exterior Control Monitors are responsible for ensuring that all access control hardware (doors/alarms), as well as building facilities, such as lights and water fountains, are working properly. In addition to conducting rounds through the university facilities and external areas, ECO completes daytime projects and traffic control on an as-needed basis. HSAs should be able to walk and stand for extended periods, possess a high level of integrity, maintain calm under pressure, and be comfortable giving directions to visiting guests.
