Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Department Manager and the Supervisor/Lead, incumbent is responsible for providing support to properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services. The incumbent inspects and maintains exterior and interior surfaces of both paint and wall paper, trimming and fixtures of buildings and other related structures and facilities. Use premixed paints or custom prepared paints; apply wood finishes (new and/or old surfaces) and appropriately prepare surfaces. Perform repairs to drywall, plastered surfaces and stucco. Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of airless and conventional spray equipment. Cover interior walls and ceilings of offices and related facilities with wallpaper or fabrics. Discuss jobs with supervisor in order to keep apprised of job progress and resolve any problems related to the job. Submit completed work orders to supervisor. Provide direction to semi-skilled or unskilled workers. Maintain accurate hours on each job; operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment of the trade; follow established safety procedures; clean up job site and return equipment and tools.
Seasonal Crew positions are anticipated to begin on 5/18/2020 and conclude on 10/9/2020.
These are temporary full-time “Limited” appointments that will not exceed 2080 hours.
Job Qualifications
Working knowledge of materials, equipment, methods and tools of the Wall paper’s trade, including special knowledge of spray equipment.
Required
Proficiency in English to read technical trade related manuals and written instructions from supervisor.
Required
Knowledge of fire, safety and building codes; working knowledge of standard safety practices and safe use of equipment related to the trade.
Required
Skill in estimating type and quantity of materials needed to complete specific assignments.
Required
Ability to inspect, lubricate, clean, adjust or replace equipment and parts related to the trade.
Required
Expert knowledge of surface tolerance for: plaster, drywall, wood, metal, plastic, for paint and water.
Required
Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
Required
Ability to patch and repair existing drywall, sometimes with limited resources.
Required
Ability to plan the lay out of complete sections of wall paper replacement/installation.
Required
Skill in mixing paints, varnishes, pigments and drying substances to match desired color and viscosity.
Required
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with interpersonal skills. Interact effectively and diplomatically with team members, peers, supervisors and all levels of University personnel.

Ability to work under adverse conditions such as humid weather and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures and dirty and noisy conditions.
Required
Ability to stand, crawl, climb, walk, stoop, crouch for extended periods of time and to push, pull and lift/lower objects weighing up to 50lbs from floor to waist high and rotate upper torso. Ability to lift material and parts, up to 50 pounds, from shoulder to above head while standing on a ladder.
Required
Ability to drive a pick-up truck or van. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
Required
Knowledge of University Staff Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Preferred
Working knowledge in the use of a computer and programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Can be trained
Ability to train seasonal, casual subordinates in proper methods and practices of the trade.
