Room Operations Director
Job Description
The Director of UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services, Room Operations reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Housing and Hospitality Services, and has direct responsibility for the administering an annual budget with revenues in excess of $112M and expenses in excess of $44M. This position is organized around four service units including Access Control System and Electronic Key Card Control Center, Residence Hall Front Desk Services, Residence Hall Custodial Services, UCLA Housing Mail Center. Each of these operating units provides a wide array of products and services to UCLA faculty, staff, students, residents and visitors. Rooms Division represent over 15% of H&HS’s total FTE with 166 FTE and up to 240 additional team members in part-time, limited appointment or student positions. The Director, Rooms Division, provides year round operational and financial direction to the management associated with operating and maintaining approximately 13,000 on-campus bed spaces and 2.9 million gross square feet of space.
The Director of Room Operations is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling all rooms related activities of the residential facilities during the academic year and conference season.
The Director of Room Operations is involved with the selection of the executive architects for the projects as well as the selection of the Construction Project Management firms for the various scheduled residential complex renovation, repair and new construction. The Director of Rooms Division will continue to take an active role in representing On Campus Housing in monitoring and coordinating with the Construction Project Managers, the construction noise mitigation and impacts to the student residents’ quality of life and Housing and Hospitality Services operational requirements.
The Director of Room Operations develops and monitors various management control systems for key financial and service indicators including performance measures and benchmarking for “”best in kind”” comparisons and the development of appropriate rate structures for the academic and conference room rates. Provides the necessary analysis and recommendations of Rooms Operations for the Housing Director’s review for long term planning decisions for UCLA Housing and Hospitality Services. Creates updates and monitors a rolling 5-year strategic plan for the Room Operations and successfully completes the annual strategic initiatives and goals.
The Director of Room Operations must place a heavy day-to-day emphasis on decisions within the Room Operations area that will positively impact long-term customer and employee satisfactory, employee productivity and financial benchmarks.
The Director of Room Operations meets on a regular basis with representatives from the campus community. Such as Campus Counsel, Campus Human Resources, Facilities Management, Student Affairs, University Extension, Purchasing, Transportation and Parking Services, UCLA Police, the Fire Marshall, Student with Disabilities, ADA Compliance, Real Estate Acquisitions, and Capital Programs. In addition the Director of Room Operations meets on a regular basis with the student government representatives as well as collective bargaining organization representatives from AFSCME and CUE.
