Systems Analyst

Job Description

Under the direction of the Housing & Hospitality Services (HHS) Assistant Director of Information Technology (IT), the incumbent will provide advanced technical design, implementation and support for a rapidly growing and evolving virtual server, virtual desktop, and network infrastructure (network hardware, monitoring and security software, vlans and subnets) and other business systems for HHS operations and administration.

HHS information system consists of physical and virtual servers and workstations, at least 600 clients. The servers and business applications supported by this position are mission critical to the organization.

He/she will be responsible for network hardware and software systems including firewalls, routers, switches, and infrastructure monitoring and security software. Work entails network design, device configuration, firewall rules, implementation, monitoring, PCI security, hardware and software maintenance upgrades, and response as necessary to maintain and support 24/7 operations. Includes the design, installation and maintenance of virtual server and virtual desktop environments. The position requires Microsoft and/or Cisco network certification(s). The individual will also be responsible for special IT system implementation projects as assigned.

HHS consists of multiple business units with a combined annual operating budgeting excess of $230M and over 2000 career and casual employees. HHS business units including dining services, on and off campus housing (university apartments) operations, the UCLA Conference Center at Lake Arrowhead, the UCLA Guest House, UCLA Luskin Conference Center, conference and catering services, vending services, facilities maintenance, marketing services, housing services, and the community housing office.

The target salary for this position is between the posted minimum and $6,000 monthly.

Job Qualifications

1. Demonstrated skills and abilities in the set-up, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of virtual servers, virtual desktops, server and desktop operating systems including but not limited to Windows and Linux operating systems. Skills to program Point of Sales (POS) systems (Micros Simphony, Blackboard Transact, and/or similar) according to business needs

2. Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot, diagnose, monitor and fix workstation and server faults and system crashes, implement restore and recovery plans, troubleshoot Point Of Sale Systems and other payment devices.

3. Demonstrated ability to working effectively with staff and to maintain on- going cooperative relationships with clients/end users and provide expert level tier 2 support after first level resources have been exhausted.

4. Ability to organize and coordinate resources to expedite solutions and complete projects within given deadlines.

10. Demonstrated abilities and knowledge of networking equipment, routers, firewalls and switches.

11. Cisco CCNA, CCNP, Microsoft MCP, MCSE, and MCSD, CompTIA A+ certifications, and VMWare Virtual Infrastructure certification(s).

12. Demonstrated ability and knowledge in supporting complex corporate networking and related networking concepts: TCP/IP protocols, routing and switching.

13. Detailed working knowledge of Cisco and Palo Alto firewalls and best practices to securely implement auxiliary networks to support business application requirements.

14. Detailed working knowledge of end user office productivity applications including Microsoft Office Suites, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Outlook.

15. Detailed working knowledge of and experience with UPS systems, remote control and remote access utilities and systems.

16. Detailed working knowledge of and experience with configuration backup/recovery, patch management, and upgrade process of networking hardware and software systems.

17. Ability to work after normal business hours, weekends, and respond to emergency calls as necessary and when appropriate.

18. The ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs for short periods of time for installation, repair, and trouble shooting of hardware systems.

19. Position is subject to the California DMV’s “Pull Notice System” and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
