Job Description
The Marketing & Communications Department within UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services (H&HS) provides comprehensive in-house creative support for all of the H&HS units in a very high-volume, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Department services include web, print and digital design targeted to diverse audiences including students, parents, staff, faculty, alumni, and visitors to the University. H&HS clients include (but are not limited to) Administration, HR & Payroll, UCLA Dining Services, UCLA Conferences & Catering, UCLA Housing Services and Room Operations, University Apartments, the UCLA Guest House, the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center & BRUIN WOODS Family Resort, and the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center.
Under the general supervision of the Senior Project & Production Manager, the incumbent will develop and maintain websites, design and code email marketing campaigns, and undertake other special projects as necessary. Ideal candidates will possess a proven combination of web development, UI/X, and graphic design skills. Must possess proven knowledge of graphic design principles; knowledge of typography and effective use of type; knowledge of commercial printing and production processes.
Primary responsibilities include the development and maintenance of professional, visually appealing, user friendly, and responsive websites. Web development skills should include extensive knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, SASS, Git, JavaScript/jQuery, gulp.js, node.js, and PHP. CMS administration experience, particularly WordPress and WP theme modification/customization is also necessary.
Incumbent will design and develop email campaigns and implement special projects for interactive applications by using relevant and appropriate technology, including testing and trouble-shooting. Incumbent must also be highly proficient with the Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office to complete print and digital design projects and other research and communications projects. Incumbent will work in conjunction with internal Information Technology group to ensure that all websites developed, updated, and managed are compliant with UCOP approved practices and guidelines. Working knowledge of social media channels to create campaigns, promote a brand, and engage and an audience is a definite plus. Demonstrated research and analytical skills are required to solve problems with innovative and workable solutions.
Incumbent must possess excellent project management skills to work simultaneously on many projects with competing deadlines. Excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and active listening skills are required. Excellent communication skills are also required for presentations, content development and copy writing, working in groups, and email correspondence. Ability to interact positively and diplomatically with clients, providing excellent customer service is a must. A minimum of a B.A. or B.S. degree, or equivalent work experience in related field(s) such as web development and design, graphic design, computer science, communications is required.
